Taylor Kane

Taylor Kane is one of Chicago’s premier haircutters. Specializing in scissor work and dry cutting, he has a diverse set of skills perfect for all hair lengths, types and textures. Taylor has earned a reputation as an expert in working with thick, dense hair, using gentle techniques to evenly distribute weight and help hair become more manageable.

Taylor is also a certified Hairskeen hair-replacement specialist, allowing guests to experience quality hair-loss solutions that are seamless, comfortable and natural-looking.

A third-generation hairdresser, Taylor grew up in the salon environment, spending time in the breakroom after school. For some children, the smell of crayons of freshly cut grass remind them of childhood, for Taylor it’s the smell of perm solution—although it wasn’t until his early 20s that Taylor decided to pursue a career as a haircutter.

While studying art in college, he discovered a passion for stone sculpture, and realizing the parallels between sculpture and haircutting, decided to enroll in cosmetology school at one of the top schools in the country, Aveda Institute Minneapolis.

After years of working and educating in one of the top salons in Chicago, he was eager for a salon that attracted the creative professionals he wanted in his chair, in a space that felt luxe but not sterile. And by founding of Thrive Hair Collective, he did just that.

Taylor regularly pursues advanced education, studying with global educators and artistic teams to advance his cutting skills. He applies his technical knowledge, creativity, and humor to create short and long-form videos and was awarded with a Video of the Year Award at the 2023 HVA’s.

When he’s not in the salon you can find Taylor dining at restaurants across Chicago with his food-critic wife, Adrian Kane. From hole-in-the wall spots to fine dining, Taylor’s clients can always expect their appointments to include the latest restaurant recommendations.
